Tom came to Salem after having played football at Akron’s Central High School. Tom started at salem as an offensive guard. Tom was a two-year starter and eared three letters. He was named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Tom was a unanimous choice and was named honorary captain – along with Billy Conors. Tom also received the Yank’s Athlete of the Year Award.
Tom was selected to the Who’s Who; he also earned additional monies beyond his scholarship by being a biology teaching assistant for Mrs. Juanita McCoy and working in the college cafeteria for his meals.
Tom graduated in 1961 and left Salem College to earn his master’s degree from West Virginia University, OH. He returned to Salem as a biology instructor and assistant football coach. He has taught for 39.5 years at the collegeiat levels: Salem, the University of Maryland, Kent State Universiyt, and Cuyahoga Community College. He currently instructs science for nursing students. Tom is also a founding member of the Salem College Football Alumni Association.
For his hobbies, he builds spec homes, sails and is a volunteer ski patrolman. He has two children. His son is a Commander and a pilot in the United States Navy. His daughter just completed her Ph. D. from the University of Sothern California.
