Shawn Pynn is entering his third season as manager of the SIU baseball program.
Pynn inherited a program that won just four games the season prior to his arrival. In his first season (2012) at the helm, the Tigers won 13 games--marking the most wins since the 2005 season. Last season, SIU struggled with injuries but still managed 10 wins in their inaugural Great Midwest Athletic Conference season.
Pynn played two seasons at Genesee Community College prior to transferring to Gannon University, where he graduated in 2004 with a degree in history.
The Toronto, Ontario native began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Gannon before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to take a head coach position with the Hamburger Sport-Verein Stealers in Hamburg, Germany. The next stop on his journey came in 2010 when he was named the head coach of the Verona Knights of the Italian Baseball League.
Pynn returned to the United States as an assistant coach at Roosevelt University, an NAIA school in Chicago, Ill. He took over the Slippery Rock Sliders of the Prospect league for the 2012 campaign before being named the head baseball coach at SIU in the fall of 2012.
Shawn is married to Pola Pynn. The couple has a son, Riley, and a dog named Tallie.
