Two big games for Salem on Thursday. The Salem Softball team took on their rival, Fairmont state University. Both games were very exciting. In the first game, Fairmont scored first but would not score until again the 5 th inning, and then would only score 1 run. The Tigers would not score until the 5 th inning with Alicia Potts hitting a home run to make the score Fairmont 2, Salem 1. In the Bottom of the 7 th with no outs and Amber Russel on base, Lakeisha Bowsman came to the plate and hit a walk-off home run.
In the Second game, it was all Fairmont in the first three innings of the game, with them scoring 5 runs however they did not score again for the rest of the game. Salem did not start scoring until the third. The inning started off with Samantha Gould getting hit by a pitch, then Kassidy Nutter got walked, and Alicia Potts hit a single. Up next was Tori Lease. She had a sac fly to score Gould, and Thea Cooper had a single to score Nutter, and then a big home run by Wes Leffler to score three more. This would tie the game up at 5 to 5 in the 4 th. The Tigers came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth. The first two batters for Salem went down but Wes Leffler got on base, and Amber Russel came to the plate, and she hit a 2-run home run to put Salem up, 7 to 5. Fairmont would come up, but they would not put any runs together. These wins were big for Salem beating Fairmont is good motivation for the girls’ softball team.
