Fred Gandt attended Salem from 1956-1960 when he graduated with a BS in Business. Fred played four years of basketball and three years of tennis. Although recruited by Byron Gibson he also played for Clem Clower. He claimed all- conference honors three straight years and scored over 1,600 points. He was 15th in the nation with 24.5 points per game and he is currently fourth in scoring for Salem.
After graduating from Salem in 1961, Fred went on to teach in the subjects of Math, General Business, Social Studies, and Driver’s Education. Fred married Grace Brown, who is also a teacher. They have been happily married for 47 years and have two daughters and three grandchildren. Both Fred and his wife are retired school teachers. They currently reside in Cypress Landing, North Carolina.
