Dan Capelletti

Dan Capelletti Personifies what a good student-athlete is all about. Recruited by Ed Pastalong (currently Director of Athletics at WVU) on a football scholarship, Dan was a 4 year letter winner on the Salem football team  where he was a starter for three years and a member of the 1975 championship team. During his playing years Dan was recognized for his football accomplishments by being named honorable mention All WVIAC. He is remembered as being a “sparkplug” for the team and is proud of the fact that during his four years on the football team, Salem was always victorious over rival Fairmont State!
After Graduating in 1976 with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Special Education, Dan remained at Salem as a football coach from 1978-1981. From there he began a successful 20-year career as a high school football and wrestling coach. Dan is currently a teacher in Cape May, NJ. His two sons, Michael and Matthew followed in their father’s footsteps by receiving football scholarships and going on to careers in teaching. We are grateful that Dan Capellentti chose Salem for his college experience and proud to welcome him into the Salem Athletic Hall of Fame.
