Welcome to the Salem International University New Athletic Training Website.  We are excited about our new program and facilities here at SIU.  We recently moved the athletic training room from the second floor in the gym to the first floor of the T. Edward Davis Building.  The new athletic training room is equipped with three new offices, a hydro room, new treatment and taping tables, and a generous space for rehabilitation, which includes the CYBEX TRAZER.  (Pictures coming soon!)

Salem International University athletic training program is proud to initiate a fitness/wellness program on campus.  To ensure that the athletes, students, and faculty/staff are able to reach their goals, SIU is pleased to provide an updated and newly renovated Weight Room. (Click for picture!)  The new Weight Room is equipped with new Cybex weight machines as well as Cardio machines, including the Cybex Pro3 Treadmills and Total Body Arc Trainers which both include personal monitors. 

The SIU Athletic Training staff employs one full-time NATA certified athletic trainers that work with both teams and individuals on a daily basis for evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and conditioning. The athletic trainor is committed to provide the best knowledge and experience to SIU student, athletes, coaches, faculty/staff, and visiting teams.

As a staff they have access and utilize a variety of treatments options including therapeutic and electric modalities, aquatic therapy, strengthening, stretching, manual therapies, balance exercises and sport specific exercises to assist in keeping our student athletes healthy, fit and at peak physical performance. Our mission is to prevent and treat the student-athlete in order to allow them to return to full competition as quickly and safely as possible.  Our mission is also to provide an environment to maintain an elite fitness and wellness program for all students, athletes, and faculty/staff.

All athletes at SIU are required to have a physical examination prior to the start of each school year as well as have current medical insurance and immunization records. For incoming and returning athletes looking for physical and other clearance forms, please visit the university's athletic compliance information page and print off the forms from the student-athlete forms section.

Immunization Requirements

West Virginia State Requirement for all incoming freshmen or transfers.

  • Meningococcal Vaccine
  • Polio series
  • Tetanus-Diptheria-Pertussis (DTaP, Tdap, DT and Td)
  • Hepatitis B series
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)

The following immunizations are also recommended prior to enrollment for all other schools in West Virginia

  • Varicella vaccine or history of chicken pox
  • Tuberculosis skin test, if applicable
  • HEPATITIS A vaccine
  • Annual Influenza vaccines
  • Pneumovax, if indicated
  • HPV series - Gardasil (for females)
  • Pertussis vaccination  (For health care students)
